Basic Shotgun

This course includes classroom and range time learning how to shoot shotguns at moving targets. Students learn rules for safe gun handling; shotgun parts and operation; shotgun shell components; shotgun shell malfunctions; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting at straight away and angled targets; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

We cover different types of shotgun actions, we provide a choice of several different shotguns to use, part of the basic course is for you to get an idea of what to look for when you purchase. Classes not only cover firearms but also ammunition, its parts and how it functions, and the right ammo for your shotgun. It covers ammo malfunctions and how to handle them.

If you are bringing a firearm, THERE IS NO LIVE AMMO IN CLASS!
After class time (3 to 4 hrs), we will break for lunch. You can brown bag or stop on the way to the range. (about 20-25 mins) The range is one of the state parks set up for shotgun shooters. Once at range we shot at moving targets, clay birds thrown from power throwers. After we get our fill of live fire, we return to field strip and clean whatever firearm you used. Please remember class is a full day, but a fun day.

WE SHOOT OUTDOORS SO DRESS FOR THE WEATHER, CLOSED TOE SHOES ARE SUGGESTED. WE SHOOT RAIN OR SHINE, WE ONLY STOP FOR HEAVY RAINS OR STORMS. We’ll reschedule if need be. Remember everyone needs to bring hearing and eye protection. For those bringing a firearm, bring the manual. Any questions please call.
